Trade Copiers and VPS for Prop Traders
What each firm says about copying trades and running a VPS, what Tradesyncer and QuantVPS cost on paper, and where each can go wrong.

Short answer: copy trades only between accounts you own, check your firm's current rule in writing before you start, and accept that if the copier fails, it's your risk, not the firm's. Most prop traders don't need a VPS. I place my Lucid orders from TradingView through Tradovate. A VPS is for unattended bots and desktop copiers that need a PC running all day, and Topstep prohibits VPS use. Free native copiers (Tradovate Group Trading, the TopstepX copier) cover many cases before you pay for anything.
Do you need a copier or a VPS?
- One account, trading by handNo. Neither tool adds anything.
- Several of your own accountsMaybe a copier. Try the free native one your platform offers first.
- A bot or NinjaTrader strategy that runs unattendedA VPS can keep it running away from home internet or power cuts, if your firm allows automation and VPS. See prop firms that allow bots.
- A desktop copier that needs your PC onA VPS is the usual fix. Tradesyncer's pitch is that its copying runs in the cloud, so no VPS is needed.
Latency matters mostly to scalpers, and prop firms ban high-frequency trading anyway.
What each firm says
Quotes are from each firm's help pages as I read them in October 2026. Rules change often, so confirm on the firm's help centre before you act. Apex, Tradeify and FTMO help pages blocked my research tool, so their wording is partly from search snippets: not confirmed, check yourself.
| Firm | Copying your own accounts | VPS / remote servers |
|---|---|---|
| Lucid Trading | "Automated trading systems and trade copiers are permitted", and all activity must follow Lucid's rules. Hedging is a separate prohibited article. | Not mentioned on the page I read. |
| Topstep | TopstepX has its own copier: "Trade copying is only available for Trading Combine and Express Funded Account accounts"; "Live Funded Account accounts cannot use the Trade Copier". | Prohibited. "The use of VPS, VPNs, and remote servers is prohibited by Topstep's Terms of Use." Servers are fine only for non-order work such as data or backtesting. Whether a cloud copier counts as a remote server isn't stated, so ask Topstep support in writing. |
| FundedNext | Sources differ. The Futures help article says copy trading is allowed, including to other firms, "if the trader owns all accounts involved". An older general article (CFD challenges, per a search summary I didn't re-read) reportedly bars cloud copiers. | Not addressed on the Futures page. The older article reportedly allows a VPS-based copier between your own Challenge accounts. |
| Apex | Depends on account type. The current Performance Account page allows copying across your own PAs, with the hedging rule still applying. A legacy PA page bars accounts "managed or influenced by" copy services or mirroring software. Not confirmed; check yourself. | Not confirmed. Apex reportedly banned automation in September 2026. |
| Tradeify | "Copy trading (using Trade Copier or any method) is allowed on Tradeify, but you may only copy trades between accounts that you personally own and manage." Not confirmed on the live page; check yourself. | Not confirmed. |
| FTMO | Not confirmed from FTMO's own pages. Check yourself. | "The use of VPN/VPS is also generally allowed", with a US exception: avoid logging in from the US or setting VPS geolocation there on MetaTrader, cTrader or TradingView. |
What gets accounts banned: other people, signals and hedging
The line firms draw is ownership. Copying your own accounts is usually fine. Copying anyone else's trades is where accounts get terminated.
- Between different people: Tradeify says copying "from or to accounts owned by other people is strictly prohibited and may result in account termination".
- Signal groups and group trading: FundedNext's Futures page says traders "cannot group trade or coordinate trades with other traders" and cannot "subscribe to any trading signal services or use external signals". It says this holds even through automated tools or copiers.
- Shared bots: some firms restrict running the same strategy across different users. E8 does, and Bulenox restricts shared tools; see the bots guide.
- Hedging across accounts: a copier that opens opposite positions on two accounts, even at different firms, can breach a hedging rule. Lucid has a separate prohibited-hedging article, and Apex's page says its hedging rule still applies to copying.
Mirroring a third party's trades is the riskiest use of a copier. Don't do it.
Tradesyncer
What it is: a cloud trade copier. You pick a leader account and follower accounts, set a size multiplier per follower (including mini-to-micro mapping), and bracket orders (take-profit and stop-loss) copy and update. The vendor says it supports Tradovate, Rithmic, NinjaTrader and others, and names Apex, Lucid, Topstep, Tradeify and MFFU among 50+ firms and platforms. Naming a firm isn't a statement that the firm allows copying: see the table above.
List prices (monthly): Basic $49 (2 connections, 10 accounts per connection), Pro $99 (4 connections, 20 accounts per connection), Flex $149 (unlimited connections, 120 accounts included). There's a 7-day free trial with a card required; per the pricing page you're charged on day 7 unless you cancel first. Yearly billing is advertised as "up to 30%" cheaper, but annual prices aren't listed, and I found no refund terms on the pricing page. Vendor-claimed speed is "built for fast cloud copying"; it gives no millisecond figure.
Watch out: Trustpilot has real reliability complaints, including stop-losses or closes that didn't copy, duplicate trades and weak support, though other reviewers report no problems across about ten prop connections. One third-party aggregator calls it "still in beta" and says liability is capped at one month's subscription; I couldn't check that against Tradesyncer's terms. On a funded account a missed stop can end the account. Run a trial on a demo or small account first and check every fill. Set a reminder to cancel before day 7.
QuantVPS
What it is: a VPS provider aimed at futures traders. Standard plans run from Starter at $29.99/mo (2 cores, 4GB RAM) through Lite $59.99, Pro $99.99 and Ultra $189.99. "+" plans with faster memory run $39.99 to $199.99, and Dedicated plans are $299.99 and $399.99, so the full range is $29.99 to $399.99 a month. Its locations page lists Chicago as the site "optimized for CME futures trading".
Vendor claims, not verified: 0.52ms to CME Globex in Aurora (Chicago), a 99.999% uptime SLA backed by service credits, and an average first support response under 10 minutes. I found no independent uptime or latency data, and the vendor's own page advises measuring jitter and packet loss yourself. Annual discounts are mentioned but no percentages are listed, and I didn't find a refund policy on the pages I read: check its legal page before paying.
Watch out: Trustpilot complaints cluster on the $399.99 Dedicated+ plan: slowness, unanswered support emails and refund requests, while others report excellent uptime. Much of the review text repeats across country pages, so the pool of distinct reviewers is small. And a VPS isn't allowed everywhere: Topstep bans it outright, and running a bot or copier from one there risks suspension. Where you do use one, note that TopstepX allows one concurrent session, so a VPS session and a home session can knock each other off.
Free alternatives
Tradovate has Group Trading and TopstepX has its own copier, both free per the platforms' help pages. They only cover accounts on that platform, and the TopstepX copier is limited to Combine and Express Funded accounts. You can also run a desktop copier on your own PC, as long as you keep it on and watched. If these cover your setup, you may not need a paid tool.
Checklist before you copy anything
- Own every account. All of them in your name, at every firm involved.
- Get the rule in writing.Ask support by email or chat, and keep the reply. Do this especially at Topstep for any cloud or VPS tool.
- Check hedging.Make sure the copier can never open opposite positions across accounts.
- Test small.Use demo or your smallest account and compare every fill, stop and close.
- Mind the drawdown.Copying multiplies a loss across accounts. See trailing vs end-of-day drawdown.
FAQ
Is copy trading allowed at prop firms?
Often yes between accounts you own, but firm by firm and sometimes account type by account type. Copying between different people is banned or restricted at several firms. Confirm on the firm's help centre.
Do I need a VPS to trade futures at a prop firm?
Most traders don't. If you place orders by hand, home internet is enough. A VPS mainly helps unattended bots and desktop copiers, and Topstep prohibits it.
Does Topstep allow Tradesyncer or QuantVPS?
I can't tell you. Topstep's page prohibits VPS and remote servers and bars servers from relaying orders for you; it doesn't say how a cloud copier is treated. Ask Topstep support in writing and keep the answer.
Can I copy a signal group's trades to my prop account?
That's the use most likely to get an account terminated. FundedNext says traders cannot use external signals, and Tradeify prohibits copying to or from other people's accounts.
Is Tradesyncer's free trial really free?
It's a 7-day trial with full access, but a card is required and it's charged on day 7 unless you cancel before then, per its pricing page.
