The Best Prop Firms in 2026, Compared by a Funded Trader

20 firms, ranked on what decides whether you actually get paid: drawdown type, payout rules and the real cost of getting funded. Each one comes with the catch the other lists leave out.

Why trust this list

Most "best prop firm" lists are written by marketers who have never sat through an evaluation, and they rank firms by who pays the biggest commission. This one is written by a trader, so it leads with the rules that actually end accounts and block payouts, not the headline profit split.

Easiest futures evaluation

Apex Trader Funding

Futures · one-time fee

No consistency rule and no minimum days to pass, and you choose end-of-day drawdown. One strong day can pass you.

The catch: every payout needs 5 qualifying days and has to clear a 50% consistency check.

Best for newer traders

Topstep

Futures · monthly subscription

The longest track record (since 2012), an end-of-day loss limit and no deadline to pass. Clear, well-documented rules.

The catch: you pay every month until you pass, and a ~55% best-day rule can raise your real target.

Highest-rated futures firm

My Funded Futures

Futures · 4.9★ from ~17,500 reviews

The best Trustpilot score of any large futures firm, a one-time fee and a 90/10 split.

The catch: on the Rapid plan, the funded account switches to intraday drawdown, which is harder to keep.

Best for forex traders

FTMO

CFD & forex · 4.8★

Over a decade running, and the 2-Step's fixed 10% max loss is the friendliest drawdown of any firm here.

The catch: two phases to pass, and the daily loss limit counts trades you haven't closed yet.

Biggest CFD firm

FundedNext

CFD & futures · ~4.5★ from ~77,000 reviews

More reviews than any other firm, up to a 95% split and a written 24-hour payout guarantee.

The catch: one payout tracker noted its monthly payout report stopped after February 2026.

Best for swing traders

The5ers

CFD & forex · 4.8★

Forgiving rules for slow, steady trading, payouts every 14 days, and a split that scales up to 100%.

The catch: the split can start as low as 50% before you scale up.

Best for crypto traders

Crypto Fund Trader

Crypto, forex & gold · paid me ~$15K

Bitcoin, forex and gold in one firm. The 2-Step has a static 10% max loss, and my payouts arrived in 2–3 days with no denials.

The catch: a Swiss regulator warning, no Trustpilot score and no independent payout record. Keep account sizes modest.

Guides

Futures or CFD: which should you choose?

Pick the market you already trade. A firm's rules matter less than trading the instrument you know.

Futures firms

  • Trade regulated CME contracts (ES, NQ, CL, GC)
  • Rules set in dollars, e.g. $2,000 max loss on 50K
  • Usually trailing drawdown: learn end-of-day vs intraday
  • Often a single evaluation phase
  • Best for: US index and commodity day traders

CFD & forex firms

  • Trade forex pairs, indices and gold as CFDs
  • Rules set in percentages, e.g. 5% daily, 10% max
  • Often a fixed (non-trailing) max loss
  • Commonly two phases to pass
  • Best for: forex and swing traders, and traders outside the US

How I rank firms

  1. Drawdown typeIntraday trailing fails more traders than end-of-day or fixed. It's weighted heavily. How it works
  2. Payout rulesConsistency checks, minimum days and caps decide how much of your profit you can actually take out.
  3. Real costMost traders need several attempts. A cheap fee with harsh rules can cost more than a pricier one.
  4. Track recordYears in business, review volume and ratings, and whether traders, including me, actually get paid.

FAQ

Are prop firms legit?

The established ones pay out, but the business model depends on most traders failing and paying evaluation fees. Many funded accounts are simulated. Stick to firms with a long payout record, read the payout rules before you buy, and treat the fee as money you might lose.

What's the easiest prop firm challenge to pass?

Easiest to pass usually means no consistency rule, no minimum days and end-of-day drawdown. Apex and Alpha Futures' Zero plan fit that in 2026. But easy to pass doesn't mean easy to get paid: check the payout rules too.

Which drawdown type is best?

Fixed (static) is the most forgiving, end-of-day trailing comes next, and intraday trailing is the hardest. Here's how each one works, with examples.

How much does it really cost to get funded?

Multiply the fee by the number of attempts you realistically need, then add any activation fee. A $150 challenge passed on the third try costs about $450. Compare firms on that total.

Do you earn money from these links?

From some of them, yes. That's how this site stays free. Firms I earn from get the same honest "watch out" note as the rest, and none of them can pay for a better rank.

Risk warning: most traders fail prop firm evaluations, and the fee is usually not refunded. Funded accounts are often simulated, and payouts can be denied for breaking rules. Only pay fees you can afford to lose. Nothing on this site is financial or investment advice.
